From 30-120 mg once daily at breakfast, depending on response, including elderly or those w/ mild to moderate renal insufficiency. Patients at risk of hypoglycemia Initially 30 mg daily. Combination w/ other antidiabetics May be given in combination w/ biguanides, α-glucosidase inhibitors or insulin.
Hypoglycemia may occur w/ all sulfonylureas, in cases of accidental overdose, when calorie or glucose intake is deficient, following prolonged or strenuous exercise & patient w/ severe hepatic or renal impairment. Inform patient of importance of following dietary advice, taking regular exercise & regular monitoring of blood glucose levels. Patients w/ G6PD deficiency. Possible symptoms of hypoglycemia should be taken into account prior to treatment. Pregnancy (change to insulin before pregnancy is attempted or discovered).
